Jim Brady for gun Control
Jim Brady Still Pushing for gun Control

31 March, 2011: Marking the 30th anniversary, of the assassination attempt which confined Jim Brady to a wheelchair, has once again urged the congressmen for tougher laws for gun control. He was the press secretary of former president Ronald Reagan.
Brady and his wife Sarah strongly advocate the gun control issue and their ceaseless effort to bring about greater control finally resulted in the Brady bill thirteen years after the incident. According to the law a background check has to be run immediately to purchase a hand gun.
In the opinion of Brady and his wife the recent Mass shooting incident In January in Arizona killing six people and injuring congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords along with 13 others is a result of the laxity in gun control.
He said that if there was common sense in legislation he would not have been sitting in the wheel chair.
The striking similarity in the Gifford’s and Brady’s case is getting shot in the head by a gunman and being pronounced dead initially.
The mental competence of the gunman is in question in both the Arizona mass shooting case and Regan’s probable assassin.
After a long tussle with death Brady lived but can barely move and still has garbled speech.
On Wednesday he appeared on the hill to support the legislation banning purchase of ammunition of large capacity and another legislation according to which the background of a person has to be checked thoroughly.
Within two weeks of the Arizona shoot out the Large Capacity ammunition Feeding Device Act was put in place as an extended clip was used by the shooter.
According to Frank Lautenberg, supporter of the bill in its senate version, such devices transform a handgun into mass destruction weapons.
