6 April, 2011: M-class sports utility vehicle of Daimler AG’s Mercedes Benz is facing issues with cruise control which may result in a crash.
News about the recall has been provided by United States federal safety regulators about the Daimler on Tuesday.
M-class SUVs of the model year 2000-2002 are the ones which have been majorly recalled and a few of the 2000-2004 AMG performance vehicles are also in the recall list.
A representative of Mercedes- Benz from United States and Germany said that 136,751 vehicles from US and 50,000 from Germany have been recalled but no news about the global recall figure came from the world head quarters of Mercedes Benz in Germany.
Mercedes-Benz spokesperson in US, Rob Moran said that so far no crashes or injuries have been reported.
There are increased chances of failure of the application of brakes to disengage cruise control which may result in a crash says the filing in the National traffic safety administration of US. The NHTSA also said that the recall is a result of several complaints.
In case tapping the brakes fail there are other ways to work it out like applying continuous pressure on the brakes or by working a cruise control stalk which is on the steering wheel said Mercedes-Benz.
Spokesperson Rob Moran also said that cruise control would automatically disengage if the speed of the vehicle is brought down to 25 miles or less per hour.
The defect is because of the brake lamp switch which needs to be replaced in the said models which is to start this September without the customer having to pay.
